Co-operative Values

Co-operative Values & Principles

We encourage new ideas to tackle issues that are important to any co-operative – from helping the community to changing the world. Co-operatives are structured so that members have democratic control with equal rights and benefits, and treat each other as they would like to be treated themselves, supporting one another as well as other co-operatives.

Co-operative values

• self-help – helping people to help themselves
• self-responsibility – taking responsibility for, and answering to our own actions
• equity – a way that is fair and unbiased
• solidarity – we share interests and common purposes with our members, and with co-operatives around the UK

Ethical values

• openness and honesty – we are open and honest about what we do and the way we do it
• social responsibility – encouraging people to take responsibility for their own community, and working together and share knowledge to improve it
• caring for others – encouraging each other to support charities and local community groups
